Scaleable Uninterruptible Power Supply (SUPS)

ROLE

The SUPS is a rugged Scalable Uninterruptible Power Supply, designed to provide continuous, conditioned, filtered, stable power protection for critical equipment operating in the 7 to 32 VDC range in almost any environment.

The SUPS is intended to power computers, communications and scientific devices in both static and mobile applications where continuous and ‘clean’ power has not previously been so economically available.

DESCRIPTION

The SUPS unit is a microprocessor controlled, active, no-break, in-line system tailored to accept input voltages from mains (85 to132 VAC or 170 to 264 VAC) and from 11 to 32 VDC sources such as vehicle, solar panel or wind generators. The SUPS then provides this power to through up to four discrete DC output modules within the 7 to 32 VDC range tailored to specific requirements for optimal performance of the connected equipment.

The SUPS has been designed to facilitate concurrent AC and DC input with the AC supply precedent. In the event of failure of the AC supply the SUPS will seamlessly switch to the DC supply, if available, or to the internal sealed lead-acid batteries. The SUPS therefore ensures continuous, uninterrupted operation of the connected equipment.

The SUPS has been designed around a highly efficient heat tube to dissipate internally generated heat whilst isolating the internal components of the SUPS from dust and moisture. All heat-producing assemblies are mounted to the heat tube and are individually monitored by thermal sensors under the control of the microprocessor to ensure maximum system reliability. This process is aided by temperature controlled thermal fans which switch on and off as the system temperature varies.

Battery isolation facilities are provided for safe transportation and storage.

Within the SUPS unit, maximum use is made of stainless steel fittings and fastenings for strength and durability.

TRANSIT CASES

Specialist transit cases have been developed to house the SUPS unit to provide additional environmental protection during both transit and operation.

19" rack requirements can be readily met, or a case can be designed to specific user requirements.
