S&TE is the identification, acquisition and management of all equipment and tools necessary to support operations and maintenance (monitor performance, measure, calibrate, maintain, service or handle equipment) of a materiel system.  Test equipment also requires support in the form of test, calibration and repair facilities.

S&TE are those items that are commonly used to perform maintenance.  These items can range from simple hand tools to ATE and BITE to sophisticated electronic diagnostic workstations.  The performance of scheduled and unscheduled repair and maintenance tasks at all levels of maintenance depends on the capabilities and timely procurement of the support and test equipment.
