Configuration Management (CM) CM is a discipline that applies technical and administrative direction to specification, development, production and support of a capability. CM therefore serves to maintain through-life consistency of a capabilities actual functional and physical characteristics with its approved specification, design and operating configuration. The configuration is also the physical nature of parts, assemblies, equipment or products, or any combination of these, which are capable of fulfilling the form, fit and functional requirements of a materiel system. CM is a management practice that enables other activities such as ILS to be performed to approved baselines (functional, allocated and product). The major interactions between CM and ILS are in defining configuration items and the level of CM to be applied to the elements of logistic support, and in evaluating the ILS aspects of configuration changes. Exair personnel understand the important role of people in ensuring the acceptance and success of CM within products and organisations. Our staff work closely with our customer staff at all levels to ensure the CM processes are owned by the group.
